i just watched all three “performances” of Marilyn/Bombshell on SMASH one after the other, and i started comparing Ivy, Rebecca and Karen.

although Ivy was hands down technically the best among the three, to me her Marilyn felt cold. she was so broadway-perfect that overall her performance was too polished, and somehow that turned me off. this never occured to me until i finally saw Karen’s Marilyn. i think the fact that Karen was a little green worked to her favor. i liked her version. i felt for her Marilyn. i think i kinda get what Derek has always been saying, that Karen already had a lot of Marilyn in her. Ivy appeared desperate to become Marilyn whereas it came naturally to Karen.

Rebecca was just grossly incompetent.
