this book is probably a quarter-star shy of a perfect score. it’s really good, but i’m not quite sure where it fell short for me. the heroine isn’t a weak girl that often needs saving. in fact, she sits perfectly between ideal and intriguing. the bad boy Kaiden isn’t drawn like your typical bad boy. plus, he has a British accent!!! and overall, the plot is quite unique. but somehow, i wasn’t floored.
i would still recommend it in a heartbeat tho. no doubt about that.

i thought it was going to be an easy read, a light summer book. this one’s a discovery, an experience. there must be something in the way it’s written that i actually do feel like i went on the trip with Amy and Roger.
i’m actually left with a feeling that i have to read the book a second time, and maybe a third. and each time it will reveal something new.

even the author herself knew that at the very least, the pretty cover would get you to pick up the book. and normally, that would’ve been the case with me except that this time, it’s the TV pilot that got to me first.
how good is a book that managed to land a TV-pilot deal way before it’s even released?! that must be some damn book. granted, it’s on The CW - but this is the network that brought us Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries. for sure it’s entertaining.
and so i’ve waited for weeks to get my hands on a copy. i harrassed my favorite bookstore and complained at how slow they were in releasing the book. and when i finally had it - i dropped all plans, stayed at home and read all the way through the end.
it’s good.
The Selection is a young-adult romance book. it may be set in a dystopian universe but it definitely is without a doubt about romance. a love triangle, of course. and i haven’t come across a love triangle like this in a while - in that it’s a seriously good triangle. both guys equally with something to offer. and the heroine, America, she’s amazing. she seems plausible. you know how most heroines are someone so special? different, extraordinary - she’d have some hidden talent, or be amazingly beautiful. but America, she’s different but not presented to be so different that you know she was developed by the author to stand out. basically, she can be real.
then the two guys - Aspen and Maxon. i’m leaning a bit towards Maxon, because he’s a prince and he’s super sweet to America and i just can’t help liking him. but just the same, i don’t mind Aspen one bit.
i currently only have a paperback edition because that’s what they effing released my side of the world - but i want to pick up a hardcover. it’s definitely a hardcover type of book.
i want the TV show now! and the next book!!

i was desperate to wipe the-book-that-did-not-tempt-me from my mind so i picked up the first interesting book i could find - or well, that Amazon recommended that i could find - and that lead me to Die For Me.
but i have learned my lesson, i researched the book a bit more than usual so i’d clearly know what i’m getting myself into. i particularly focused on the negative stuff - which was pretty much it beeing Twilight with zombies.
yep it’s true, you could see the similarities right off the first page. open the book and you’ll know what i mean. anyway, the premise of revenants and dying over and over again is pretty interesting. the conflict that was presented early in relationship made sense. i like Kate. i like Vincent - well, the few things i found out about him seemed likeable. and that’s the problem. i would like the book more if only i saw reasons to love Kate and Vincent. i didn’t see traits that made them lovable and real. what did Vincent like about Kate? what made Kate fall in love with Vincent? guess am looking for the meat, not just the bones.
i will read the next book tho - Until I Die. am hoping that this book builds on the characters better.

this book pissed me off. it didn’t deliver on the promising premise. ugh! seriously major major disappointment. i hunted this book down! and it’s an epic fail. ugh! i hated this so much that i attempted to exchange it for another book - i saw it as a waste of my money. too bad i missed the return/exchange window!
it saddens me when books fail to reach it’s potential. A Temptation of Angels is a classic case of the summary being better than the actual story. everything was just bland. the characters were one-note, predictable. the myth and legend were quite sketchy. the villain not too villain-y. the twist entirely expected. i mean come on - did we ever doubt that Helen had the key??! and what kind of anagram was that?? it’s like the author put all her energy into coming up with a compelling outline but didn’t bother following through with the details… and i felt like the stakes kept getting lamer and lamer as i read along.
also, i don’t get the title. not after having read the book. the characters barely exhibited anything angel-like. and where the heck is the temptation?? all they did was try to find who ordered the killing but there weren’t any conflict that could make sense of the fucking title.
the only saving grace? it’ll look pretty on the bookshelf. it can just sit there looking pretty, never to be read again.

i’ve been on the lookout for a new book series i can start the past couple of days - i didn’t want to miss the weekend sale at FullyBooked. i had a book list and Immortal City wasn’t in it. it didn’t pop-up on my Amazon recommendations. but it featured a hot guy on the cover (heehee) and the plot seemed interesting so i picked it up. and boy was i glad i did.
Immortal City (and the rest of the series) is officially my new obsession. i loved Maddy and Jacks! the story development was pretty good and the suspense kept me on edge. i have to admit that i predicted who the villain was but the other twists were surprising. there were a few loose ends - and i dunno if they were put in there to throw the readers off - but i’m pretty sure these things are gonna come back somehow.
i can’t wait for the next book!!!! meanwhile, off to do a second read.

usually when i do book reviews i post the book cover. but i’m making an exception for ‘Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares’. instead am posting the words that started it all.
‘Dash & Lily’ is as much of a book about words as it is about Dash-and-Lily. i loved it. it was such a pleasure to be reading smart, snarky, witty and snarly words. it’s funny too! the best kind of funny - humor laced with so much sarcasm.
i can’t believe it took me months to get around to reading this.
