taking TV way too seriously: random DAIR epiphany
despite her actions the past three seasons, Blair is a reasonably smart girl. and deep down inside she must have considered the possibility of Dan having feelings for her. i mean, she’s read at least part of Inside (for now we’re assuming she hasn’t read the entire thing), she’s been told by Dan that he didn’t say a bad word about her, Serena’s confessed her jealousy due to Blair being the star of Dan’s book, and Dan has been telling her that she’ll have him no matter what — how can she not consider a deeper reason for all those things?
BUT, stronger than anything is Blair’s belief that she will never win over Serena. EVER. and in her mind Dan will always be Serena’s, he will always put Serena first no matter what. Blair has no idea how many times Dan has already chosen her over Serena so far:
- choosing to not be Serena’s back-up during the Lily thing (remember Dan and Eric’s conversation?) and instead thinking about the kiss
- the INSIDE portrayals
- wanting to run after Blair instead of talking to Serena at the book launch
- going into the “fake relationship” all for Blair and not picking up on Serena’s hints
so i guess it just occurred to me that Blair will never acknowledge Dan’s feelings for her until Dan tells her to her face. and even then, she’ll probably have a nagging feeling of insecurity that any moment, Serena can always sweep Dan away and she’ll be left alone. however, i think Dan’s feelings are strong enough to show Blair that for once she will truly come first with someone. (c’mon CHAIR shippers you have to admit - even with Chuck, 80% of the time he chose himself over Blair!)
and that my friends, is why i think Dan and Blair should be together. HEALTHY relationship y’all. and not just for Blair, for Dan too. (but that’s for another post altogether)
